I was recently given the opportunity to try this superfood bundle from Sari Foods Co. I have used nutritional yeast in the past from other companies but I was new to Acerola and Spirulina.
Spirulina is Blue-green algae that is rich in protein, vitamins, minerals and all kinds of other good stuff. When I first opened the package it was shockingly green and it has a bit of a “fishy” smell(but not bad). The first experience we had was mixing it into juice. To be honest it was kind of messy and I think part of our mistake was using too much at once. My husband had it that way but I only had a sip at that point. The flavor was pretty strong and I didn’t think I was going to be a fan. The next day, however, I added it to my post-workout smoothie and it was much more bearable. I couldn’t detect the flavor much at all and what I did taste, I liked. I’ll be adding it to my smoothies from now on. It will make a great addition and it’s so nutritionally rich.
The acerola powder comes from acerola cherries and is very high in vitamin C. I added this to my smoothie as well and it ill likely become a normal thing. My husband mixed a little bit of the acerola into a glass of water with a bit of raw sugar and it made a good fruity flavored drink.
Nutritional yeast is a healthy alternative to salt although it has a nice cheesy flavor and some use it to replace grated cheese as well. Don’t get this confused with baking yeast, it is inactive and has no leavening ability. This Nutritional yeast(or “nooch” as some call it) is a little bit more powdery than the flakes I’ve used in the past but that isn’t a bad thing. It goes great on popcorn or added to dishes instead of parmesan. I’m definitely happy with it.
I do have one complaint. The packaging has a zipper top, which normally is great, but the zipper on these are really hard to close. We remedied this with clips but it would definitely have been better if the closed as intended. Overall I still recommend this bundle.
