Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself. – John Dewey
Back to school! Today was the first day of school at our house. Our oldest started second grade today, Additionally, the girls we babysit day in-and-out for the summer also started back to school. The house was very quiet today.
Although “formal” learning takes place in the classroom, from preschool to high school graduation, and on through Ph.D., education is a continuing part of life. Every day someone can learn something new throughout their life! I personally enjoy learning new things on many topics, from news to science and technology, to crafts, or expanding my vocabulary, there is always something new to learn.
I have a lot of formal education ranging up to a Masters degree (today’s pictures are featured from Ashland University, where I received my MBA), but I still love learning on the side. I have signed up for SkillShare to learn, you guessed it, new skills! I’m hoping to get a better focus on photography and sharpen my Graphic Design skills, brush up on business, and any other skills that I might find handy.
In the past, I would spend hours nightly researching permaculture on Youtube, listen to podcasts, and read articles. If you are interested in producing some of your own food, being less wasteful, more energy sufficient, or going whole-hog into being a regenerative farmer, I suggest just searching the term “Permaculture”, and go from there!
Hobbies to business, entertainment to necessity, education really is life itself.
What do you like to learn about in your free time? Do you agree with this quote’s conclusion, “education is life itself”?
